Selkirk proved no match for Dumfries in the Murgatroyd 20/20 Cup on Friday night as the Nunholm side romped to a comfortable nine wicket victory. An understrength Selkirk side struggled against their national league opponents and could only muster 65 runs – a total which never looked like being enough. Ranald Wilkie was top-scorer with a typically breezy, lusty 17 but Selkirk’s batsmen struggled to cope with bowling several notches faster than that generally encountered in the Border League.
Beveridge and Alexander each took four wickets for Dumfries before Corbett-Byers and Beeztke knocked off the required runs to ensure that the visitors advance to the next round of the competition.
By way of minor consolation it is worth noting that Dumfries bowled SMRH out for just 41 on Saturday, so Selkirk are hardly the only side to suffer against the Nunholm outfit.
